In this series you will:

Learn how yoga can help with physical pain, anxiety, depression, and stress.
Explore the philosophical basis of yoga as therapy.
Learn sequences of postures you can do at home.
Experience the integration of postures, breath work and meditation techniques to focus on your needs and bring better health and balance to your life.

Each class will begin with a discussion of the therapeutic application of yoga in our lives. We will then do a posture flow incorporating postures, breath work and meditation techniques. This flow will be geared toward developing greater self-awareness and restoring physical and emotional well-being.

The World is Your Mat

Not currently scheduled

We often talk about taking yoga off the mat, as though yoga is something we do separate from the rest of our lives. Taking time from our regular schedule to attend a class or do a solo practice can often seem like creating an oasis amidst the chaos of our everyday lives. When we enter our yoga space, it can be like turning off the porch light and turning on a lamp inside “the house,” where we can be calm and less self-conscious.

Consider, though, that whatever’s happening outside the house is also happening inside the house. Our reactions to other people and to external events are colored by our memories, perceptions, tendencies and expectations.

The same is true for our yoga practice. The type of yoga we prefer, the reactions we have to the postures and techniques, how we feel about what a teacher’s saying or what other students around us are doing are all influenced by our memories, perceptions, tendencies, and expectations.

In other words, the mat is everywhere and our separation between on-the-mat and off-the-mat is an artificial distinction that can inhibit our happiness and spiritual growth.

The question then becomes, “How do we expand our understanding of yoga to encompass wherever we are right now, so that we can live fuller, more conscious, more centered, and, ultimately, more satisfying lives?"

Please join me for an exploration of what it means to see the whole world as our mat. Each class of the series will include discussion, asana (postures) practice, and meditation.http://www.rec.emory.edu/rec/fitnessemory/index.cfmhttp://www.gravityatl.com/http://www.jaishanti.comhttp://www.rec.emory.edu/rec/fitnessemory/index.cfmhttp://www.jaishanti.comhttp://www.atlantabackclinic.com/http://www.pranashineyoga.com/yogatherapyforms/PK-YTIntakeForm.pdfmailto:cmastin@pranashineyoga.commailto:cmastin@pranashineyoga.comshapeimage_1_link_0shapeimage_1_link_1shapeimage_1_link_2shapeimage_1_link_3shapeimage_1_link_4shapeimage_1_link_5shapeimage_1_link_6shapeimage_1_link_7shapeimage_1_link_8
