Welcome to PranaShine Yoga!

Many see yoga as twisting oneself into unfamiliar positions. While that is often a part of the practice, yoga is so much more. You may realize this the first time you practice, or it may take a number of years, but the facets of yoga are many and the effects of a dedicated practice profound.

Words cannot fully describe the experience and benefits of a consistent yoga practice, but try these on for size:

Release

Self-Study

Surrender

Peace

Truth

Acceptance

Humor

Awareness

Clarity

Ability

Compassion

Consciousness

Containment

Strength

Contentment

Agility

Adaptability

Balance

And, ultimately... the realization of pure love and freedom in that deep-down-in-your-bones kind of way. Heck, in a beyond-your-bones kind of way.

Did you see “twist yourself into a pretzel” in the list? No, you did not. That’s because we’re talking qualities of mind, body, and spirit.

Yoga is not the only way to experience all this, of course, but it’s thousands of years old and has been around the block plenty of times. It’s always been used in a way to meet the needs of current-day practitioners. It doesn’t discriminate. It’s a house with an endless number of rooms, one of them just for you.

Sure, twisting yourself into a pretzel or standing on your head might be what’s called for, but maybe not. Maybe it’s a type of meditation or breathing technique. Maybe it’s lying around on a bunch of blankets and bolsters. Maybe it’s flowing dynamically to the rhythm of your breath.

It’s my pleasure and honor to join you on your journey.

Om shanti,

Chris Mastin

Surgery Update

I had surgery on Monday, November 21 and the best-case scenario manifested. I was discharged from the hospital the same day and am recuperating at home, with the attentive assistance of my husband. Many thanks to those of you who’ve had me in your thoughts and prayers and who’ve been so helpful as I prepared for surgery.

I expect to return to teaching a regular, weekly class schedule in mid-to-late January, 2012.

For more information on my teaching schedule, please refer to the Schedule page.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat!
